This past weekend Cascade High School participated in the 5th/6th district qualifier for the state tournament. Rhonan Allen and Kate Smith, took second place in Duo Interpretation. Breanna Loomis and Cole Fiano took first place in Duo Interpretation. Rhonan Allen took second place in Impromptu Speaking. Ashton Weston took third place in Original Oratory and Cole Fiano took second place. Allie Ward and Georgia Holm took fourth place in Public Forum Debate. Mia Schons and Breanna Loomis took first place in Public Forum Debate. Mia also took second place in Dramatic Interpretation and Georgia Holm took fourth place. Cascade took second place overall in the 3A division. Our team advances on to the State Speech tournament on March 9th and the State Debate tournament on March 15th & 16th. Go Kodiaks!!


The Department of Health Launches Science Contest for High School Students
The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is calling on all high school students to enter the Washington Tracking Network’s (WTN) third annual Youth Science Contest. The contest is an opportunity for high school students to develop their science and communication skills by working with health and environmental data from their own communities. National Geographic Society Slingshot Challenge: The National Geographic Society is officially back for Year 2 of the Slingshot Challenge, where youth from around the world can share their ideas for "slingshotting" our planet forward! They are challenging 13-18-year olds to create a one-minute video sharing their solutions to our current environmental problems. A selection of entries will be eligible to receive funding for up to $10,000. Participation is free of charge.
They are accepting submissions until February 1, 2024. They are also offering a series of virtual support sessions for students to meet with National Geographic Explorers to ask questions and workshop their ideas and challenge solutions. Come let loose your inner Mariah Carey and Michael Bublé at our Holiday Karaoke Night fundraiser! Support Cascade Choirs while belting out your favorite Holiday pops and winter-themed bops on Monday November 27th from 5-7pm in the Choir Room at Icicle River Middle School. Entry is free, and karaoke requests are by donation. There will be sodas for sale while supplies last, and all proceeds go towards the Cascade Choral Boosters which helps cover costs for choir like festival registration fees, and student travel costs. The Cascade food service team will be serving a Thanksgiving-style lunch for students and staff next Tuesday, November 21st. Enjoy some yummy Thanksgiving food!
