What does a school counselor do?

As a School Counselor, I am responsible for overseeing and fulfilling a program designed to allow students to voice their concerns without fear or punishment. I work to help all students in the areas of academic achievement, career and social/emotional development. Some of the things I help students with are:

    • Coping Strategies
    • Meeting Basic Needs (Shelter, Food, School related funds)
    • Letting go of painful emotions
    • Loss of a family member or friend
    • Homework plans for catching up
    • Feeling Safe
    • Sexual or Physical Abuse
    • Regulating your emotions: Feeling too much of one emotion
    • How to communicate with friends and family
    • Suicidal Thoughts
    • Self-Harming Thoughts or Actions
    • Problem Solving
    • Substance Abuse
    • Goal Setting
    • Decision Making
    • Managing Life Changes
    • Bullying
