Dear Families,

Thank you for your patience as we continue to develop the reopening schools plan for the 2020-2021 school year. Over the summer, we have been planning to open schools in person following health precautions as previously explained. However, we have recently received a verbal directive from the Chelan Douglas Health District that the level of community spread of COVID-19 in the region is too high to be able to start schools in person. As you know, the health district has the authority to determine  whether or not we can open schools during a health crisis.

The model of Continuous Learning that we use this fall will not be identical to what we did in the spring. Some changes include:

• Teachers will have the opportunity to work from their classrooms
• Daily attendance will be taken, so there will be daily contact with every child
• Grading will occur as in a normal school year
• We are starting a partnership with YMCA to offer child care
• Small groups of up to five students may be able to come onsite (priority goes to students who need special services)
• We are planning to open our libraries, probably by appointment
• Consolidating learning management systems to Seesaw (grades K-2) and Canvas (grades 3-12)

In addition, the following are our draft stages of reopening, which loosely follow the Governor’s phases of reopening. These stages may be subject to change based on guidance from health authorities.

We will be starting school in stage 1. When the health district determines it is safe, we will start school in person at first with preK-grade 5 students at 50% capacity, meaning in small pods or cohorts.
